Baseboard Heating

The most popular form of electrical heating in Quebec is the traditional baseboard heater. An electric baseboard heater works by generating heat from the ground up. They are usually placed on exterior/cold walls-under windows -and slightly raised from floor level. The hot air rises upwards as cold air is pulled down and reheated.

Electric baseboard heaters come in various sizes from 500-2500 watts. One of the advantages of baseboard heaters is that they allow each room to be controlled independently. This allows you to set lower temperatures in rooms that are less frequently used, turning into lower energy costs to you. Aside from removing dust from time to time, electric baseboard heaters are virtually maintenance free.

Electric Underfloor Heating/Heated Floor

Convector Heaters

Convectors are more efficient than baseboard heaters. They operate by natural convection: hot air rises and cold air falls. The cold air is taken in through the bottom grill of the heater coming in to contact with the heating element. As a result of the Chimney effect, this warm air rises through the top grill and is expelled into the centre of the room. This transfers as much heat as possible to the largest volume of air.

One advantage of natural convection heaters is that they do not dry out the air. This results in healthy air and a balanced humidity rate. They are also completely silent and can be controlled with an integrated or wall mounted thermostat.

Electronic Thermostats

The most efficient type of thermostat is the electronic thermostat. They offer more precision regulation over conventional bi-metal thermostats. Electronic thermostats continuously monitor the ambient temperature of the room which, in turn, allows you to maintain a constant temperature for your comfort. These thermostats are also availiable in a programmable model where the temperature in each room can be programmed for certain times of the day.
